Executive Director
Isaac James
Isaac relocated to Punta Gorda from New York in December 2018 and joined the museum as a consultant in January 2019, just before the museum transitioned to its new location from Fishermen’s Village. Collaborating with former Executive Director Gary Butler, Isaac played a pivotal role in bringing the vision for the Gulf Theater to life. By May 2019, Isaac was appointed Manager of the Gulf Theater, where he transformed it into a highly sought-after performing arts venue, attracting thousands of ticket holders and patrons. His efforts were instrumental in developing a space within the museum that significantly contributes to its budget. Today, the Gulf Theater stands as the busiest performing arts venue in Charlotte County, drawing audiences from across the state to Punta Gorda for consistently outstanding performances, greatly contributing to the local tourism industry.
Isaac is also a classical pianist known for captivating audiences across the United States. He began playing by ear at age six and started formal lessons at 12. Isaac studied under esteemed mentors and has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Dedicated to making classical music accessible to all, Isaac has been involved in performances aimed at reaching rural communities in the Northeast and has supported charitable causes through music programs he helped establish. In Punta Gorda, he serves as the Music Director at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and actively volunteers with various organizations. Additionally, Isaac is a member of the Board of Directors for the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce.
“My deep appreciation for veterans comes from the service of both my grandfathers, who served during the Korean and Vietnam wars, as well as several other family members who served in the military. Yet, nothing compares to the profound respect and admiration I have for the volunteers at the Military Heritage Museum. Listening to their stories and learning about the sacrifices they made so we can live freely today is truly humbling. It is an honor to work alongside these incredible volunteer veterans, making the museum a true beacon for our veteran community in Southwest Florida and beyond.” – Isaac James
