Walt Fortney
Walt Fortney is a U.S. Army veteran, entrepreneur and community leader based in Punta Gorda, Florida. Following his military service, Walt built a successful career in the automotive industry, earning ASE Master Technician certification and becoming a recognized expert in vehicle diagnostics and repair.
In 2018, he founded Walt’s Garage, a veteran-owned and family-operated automotive repair facility that has grown into one of Southwest Florida’s most respected independent repair businesses. Under his leadership, the company has earned a reputation for technical excellence, integrity and exceptional customer service.
Walt’s commitment to serving the community extends beyond his businesses. He actively supports local veterans’ organizations, charitable initiatives, youth programs, and community events throughout Charlotte County. In 2025, he became a partner in Burg’r Bar, a Punta Gorda restaurant focused on bringing people together through community engagement, local events and charitable outreach.
As a member of the Military Heritage Museum board of directors, Walt is passionate about preserving the stories and sacrifices of America’s service members while ensuring future generations understand and appreciate the legacy of military service. His experience as a veteran, business owner, and community advocate provides a unique perspective that helps support the museum’s mission of education, preservation, and service.
Walt resides in Punta Gorda with his wife Karie, and remains dedicated to supporting veterans, strengthening the local community, and honoring those who have served.
